Waseda University to open a digital business planning course for working adults in October ― Developing core human resources for DX

2022.09.22

From October, Waseda University (President Aiji Tanaka) will begin offering Smart SE DX (Smart Systems and Services innovative professional Education program), a course on cultivating core human resources for digital transformation (DX), such as digital business designers responsible for planning and promoting DX and digital businesses. The course itself is aimed mainly at working adults. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology selected the course for the Digital Transformation Recurrent Education Promotion Project. It will run from October 8 until the end of the academic year.

The curriculum's design provides a systematic and well-balanced understanding of business areas and digital technologies for promoting DX. It references the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's DX literacy standards and the UK's SFIA Framework. To organically link digital technologies with business, students will perform Agile Business Verification (PBL), and a seminar on DX, which deepens discussion through a seminar format, will be mandatory.

The university's IoT/AI course, which preceded the DX course and has been offered since 2018, trains students to promote DX from an engineering perspective. By comparison, the DX course focuses on training personnel to promote DX from a managerial perspective. The DX course aims to develop human resources who can lead international value creation through operating smart systems and services.

Upon completion of the course, students will receive a certificate of completion and an open badge from Waseda University.
