THE MAKING (323) How Office Chairs are Made

THE MAKING follows the process of fabricating everyday products from raw materials. No.323 illustrates the creation of office chairs.

Office chairs are designed to minimize fatigue, even after prolonged periods of sitting during work. The cushion is composed of molded urethane whose hardness is tailored according to the seat position. The pressing and welding of the metal parts supporting the seat are automatically performed by several robots. Once the injection-molded plastic frame and fabric materials are ready, they are assembled by hand in the final stage.
